Watch// inspiring foodie TED talks

My New Roots
Sarah says "With every bite of food we take we are voting for the way we will look, for the way we will think, and of course the way we will feel. Our food becomes us. Literally, the green salad or the plate of french fries. What will you be voting for at your next meal?"

Cynthia says "the good intention and attention that you give that food, it comes back to you, and everyone at that table when you sit down and eat. It's simple, it's something you can do every day. Just be present while you butter a piece of toast."

take aways:
+cook with love
+watch your thoughts as you cook

"came for the song, stayed for the ballin"

My sister Egan sent me this video and I've been replaying it all week. The best was when I skipped through some of the comments and read "came for the song, stayed for the ballin." Couldn't have said it better myself: Let's Go-Matt & Kim

Bettlebung Farm ---aka dream life

Gabriela Herman's photographs of Bettlebung Farm had me going crazy yesterday. (via Miss Moss)
I want to eat a rustic dinner in a greenhouse. It's real magic right here. Fresh farm food on a farm table made from farm hands. It's beautiful.

bedroom and batter

1. I still don't have curtains in my bedroom which makes changing at night not ideal. But I do really love waking up to natural light in my room and also discovering shapes of light at sunset on my face.

2. Is mixing up some breakfast batter not the best thing ever? This was from my batch on Saturday which turned out to be difficult to flip and easily burned little guys. Still ate em all though.

summer hands

Picture 10
You should know I have a thing for hands, and a thing for summer. I love tan hands so much. Then double the magic when you put them to work by making something delicious. Riiiight?!

My friend Laura gives great nail polish tips over on her blog. I wish I could to a paint job like her.

How about this purple from Green Kitchen Stories. I think I should give purple a try once my hands are tan enough. It has to be a light purple though.

Do you like to paint your nails in the summer or just leave them natural?
I've always been a natural nail person in the summer cause it looks so clean and nice, but I'm tempted to paint them something colorful and bright. decisions.

I've been a big fan of Todd Selby for a few years now and some of my favorite shots are the ones from the kitchen or dining room. I love seeing the way people set up those spaces. It's such a gathering spot and a lot of good stuff happens in there. People and food...it's a good mix.

NTC

Picture 33
I'm a big fan of Nike Training Club App and love to go to the gym when the group fitness room is open and I can do my NTC workout by myself. It kicks me hard!

Do you have the app? Sometimes I'll do a 15 minute Get Focused workout after I run for an hour. And other times I'll do a 30 minute Get Lean or Get Toned workout after a 40 minute run.

I also like their Facebook page for Nike Women cause they throw some inspirational stuff on there and post some extra videos.

Do Nike commercials always rule or what?

Do: Garden

backyard blueberries
backyard rhubarb
backyard zuchini
backyard mom and harvest
backyard chairs and flowers
backyard chairs
Kenmore, WA

I was home for the weekend and summer was alive in Seattle. I was so glad I could see and eat the fruits of my parent's garden.

What's in the garden:
blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, kiwi, fig, and apple
tomatoes, carrots, beets, kale, chard, three kinds of squash and green onions
beans, peas, lettuce, rosemary, mint, and peppers.

In my mom's words: "I love knowing how my food has been fertilized and how the pests have been dealt with. I love being outside, in the fresh air, and working hard. I love running outside to find something I can use for dinner, breakfast, a smoothie, or whatever. I enjoy the things I freeze and can all year long. I feel productive and useful too."

A wish and a prayer that I can be a gardener like her when I have a home.

Todd Selby x Alice Waters

Edible Selby x Alice Waters to celebrate 40 years of Chez Panisse restaurant and raise money for Edible Schoolyard.

I blogged about Edible Schoolyard last week and just spotted Todd Selby's images and synopsis at NY Times. (Todd Selby is now doing Edible Selby with the NY Times. It's brilliant, he rules at photographing people in their places and has an eye for good food by inspiring people.)

I wanted to share some cool things that Alice Waters said.

"(edible schoolyard) is a way of bringing children into a new relationship to food...to an interactive experience in the garden, in the kitchen, and at the children."

"We discovered that when kids grow food and when they cook it themselves they eat it, and they love it, and they love to eat with their friends"

"We have to bring them into a positive relationship with food"

true words.
